A bedside signing is exactly what it sounds like: a licensed notary travels to a hospital room, hospice facility, nursing home, or private residence to notarize documents for someone who cannot easily leave. These appointments are common for families handling time-sensitive legal and medical paperwork. I bring everything needed to complete the notarization properly and respectfully, so your family can focus on what matters most.

Documents Families Often Need Notarized

Every situation is different, but the documents I'm most often asked to notarize at the bedside include durable and medical powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives, living wills, last wills and testaments, trust documents, and financial or real estate papers. If you're unsure whether your document needs notarization, your attorney or the facility's social worker can usually confirm. How the Signer's Awareness and Willingness Are Verified

Notary law requires that the person signing is aware of what they are signing and is doing so willingly. During a bedside visit, I speak directly with the signer to confirm they understand the document and are signing of their own free will, and I verify their identity using a valid government-issued photo ID. If the signer is unable to communicate clearly or cannot be positively identified, I may not be able to complete the notarization — this protects your loved one from fraud and keeps the document legally sound. When needed, we can arrange for witnesses to be present.
