What to bring to your appointment

The single most common reason a notarization can't be completed is a problem with identification, so this part matters. Please have ready:

• A valid, government-issued photo ID that is current and not expired — a driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID.
• The complete document, unsigned. Don't sign ahead of time; most notarizations require you to sign in front of the notary.
• Any additional signers and witnesses the document requires — everyone signing must be present with their own ID.

Make sure the name on your ID reasonably matches the name on the document. If you've recently changed your name, bring documentation that connects the two.
