Powers of Attorney for Deployment

A power of attorney (POA) lets a spouse or trusted person act on the service member's behalf while they're away. A general POA is broad; a special or limited POA covers one specific task, such as selling a vehicle, managing a bank account, signing a lease, or handling a real estate closing. Many banks, title companies, and housing offices prefer a specific POA that names the exact transaction, so it's worth asking the receiving office what they'll accept before the document is signed.

Whatever form you use, the signature must be made in the presence of the notary — not signed in advance — and the signer needs a valid, unexpired photo ID such as a military ID, driver's license, or passport.

The signer joins a secure video session, verifies their identity, and signs electronically — from another state or, in many cases, overseas with a stable internet connection. If the receiving office requires a wet-ink original, confirm that before scheduling, since some lenders and county offices still insist on paper.
